Breaking Barriers at Zero Project 2024: Our Groundbreaking Accessible Preparedness Experiment at UN Vienna

Category: Access Israel News

What happens when you simulate an emergency alert with limited hearing and vision? We put it to the test at the UN Vienna during the Zero Project 2024, and the results were eye-opening!

In our innovative experiential session, participants were challenged to find the exit under conditions simulating hearing and vision impairments. This wasn’t just a drill—it was a powerful reminder of the real-world obstacles people with disabilities face during emergencies.

Participants also had the opportunity to hear firsthand testimonials from people with disabilities about their experiences coping in emergency situations. We presented practical strategies for adapting evacuation procedures to better serve people with disabilities and engaged in meaningful discussions on how to improve safety and accessibility for all.

The feedback was overwhelming. We’re using these insights to advocate for stronger, more inclusive safety measures that ensure No one is left behind—no matter the circumstances.

A special thank you to the Seneca Trust for their generous support, making this possible.
