A few days ago, we conducted the second session of our workshop series, designed to empower instructors from the Mac Organization in Georgia to train local volunteers in supporting individuals with disabilities during emergencies.
These volunteers will become part of the global Purple Vest movement, committed to creating a more inclusive and accessible world.
Over the course of two 3.5-hour sessions, participants gained essential skills and knowledge, including:
- Introduction to Emergency Accessibility Preparedness
- Personal stories from people with disabilities
- Techniques for delivering impactful personal narratives
- Crafting experiential training
- Incorporating accessibility into emergency planning
- Developing personal evacuation plans for individuals with disabilities
As some of our participants shared:
- “I am very satisfied with the training because I never thought about creating a personal evacuation plan or what to focus on, and I’ve been working with people with disabilities for 14 years.”
- “Some people with disabilities experience crises. After this training, I understand that a crisis can happen anywhere, and it doesn’t have to be a war. We need to make it accessible for everyone.”
- “It was eye-opening for me.”
We are grateful to the Seneca Trust for their invaluable support, which made this training possible.
