As part of our visit to Chile for the Zero Project Latin America conference, the Access Israel delegation had the privilege of participating in several influential events beyond the conference, orchestrated by the Israeli Embassy in Chile.
Our first significant highlight was our meeting with the National Disability Service (SENADIS). We learned about their significant work and led a session on emergency preparedness accessibility for their staff as part of the Global Purple Vest initiative. This session emphasized the importance of appropriate preparedness for people with disabilities, the use of assistive technologies in emergency situations, and effective strategies to ensure accessibility during crises. The participants showed great interest in our model, and we thank both the organization and the Embassy of Israel in Chile for facilitating this vital meeting.
Later in our visit, we had the opportunity to visit one of the 14 Teletón organization centers that offer innovative and personalized rehabilitation treatments for people with physical disabilities while also focusing on social inclusion. During this inspiring visit, we shared insights from Access Israel’s initiatives and discussed how the Purple Vest model can be applied to Teletón’s emergency preparedness frameworks.
We are deeply grateful to the Seneca Trust for their crucial support, which has enabled us to reach new audiences dedicated to promoting accessibility.
At the Zero Project conference, led by Descúbreme organization, our team was honored to participate in multiple panels that discussed crucial topics such as disaster preparedness in climate change emergencies, education beyond the classroom, and accessibility in higher education, led by Shelly Rom and Silvina Freund. The conference was very engaging and professionally planned, and we encourage everyone to watch the recordings to learn about innovative methods from experts, especially from Latin America.
During our visit, we also met with the Jewish community in Chile, exploring opportunities to support its ongoing efforts in accessibility and inclusion, and met the wonderful accessibility team of the National Tourism Service. Another highlight of our visit was participating in a thought-provoking panel at the Universidad del Desarrollo on the subject of accessibility and sustainability, where Silvina Freund shared important perspectives on Israel’s approach to sustainability in urban accessibility.
We want to express our deep appreciation to the Israeli Embassy in Chile for orchestrating these impactful sessions, and to our friends at Zero Project and Descúbreme for creating such a meaningful event. A special thanks to the Seneca Trust for supporting our Purple Vest global mission.
Our week in Chile was a testament to the power of collaboration and shared commitment to advancing accessibility and inclusion.
